1880 Federal Census of the
Dakota Territory

The 1880 federal census is the tenth census of the United States. It
was authorized by Congress on March 3, 2025 (20 Stat. 473), and was begun on June 1, 1880. The enumeration was
to be completed within thirty days, or two weeks for communities with populations of 10,000 or more.
A total of 135,177 persons were enumerated in the Dakota Territory during 1880, including 36,909 persons in North
Dakota, and 98,268 persons in South Dakota.
